Ben, Richard and Emily collaborate on the JB wine list. It is a concise and carefully compiled selection of delicious bottles; a handful of brilliant examples of classic styles as well as a few more unconventional choices. These wines offer fantastic value, with many available by the glass and 500ml carafe. We prefer to support smaller wine producers and ethical, often organic or biodynamic methods.

Orange Wine
Orange wine is a bit like white wine, but the grapes get a few days of fermentation with their skins (this is normally done with red but not white and provides the tannins and structure). This makes them zippy and refreshing but with more backbone. Sometimes reminiscent of farmhouse cider, they are served lightly chilled and tend to be a little tart or sour, but absolutely packed with flavour and depth. Like other wines on this list, this style of winemaking is normally very ‘natural’; utilising traditional farming methods (often organic & biodynamic) and minimal intervention (very little ‘messing about’ with the wine) and almost complete avoidance of added sulphites. Perhaps an acquired taste, but we absolutely love this style of wine and find ourselves craving it very much.
Baglio Bianco IGP Cataratto (Sicily, Italy, 2016) 12% - Natural / Organic / Biodynamic 100% Catarratto. Orchard aromas of windfall apples and pears, toffee apple and plum crumble. On the palate, apple juice & fresh quince bitterness but really approachable with a honeyish finish. 32.00
Benimaquia Tinajas – Bodegas Bernabé Navarro (Alicante, South-East Spain, 2015) 11.5% - Natural / Organic / Biodynamic Made of 100% Moscatel, one of the three sherry grapes, and the family resemblance is clear. Grown on ancient vines in sandy coastal soils, this wine is packed with flavour. Spiced, stewed fruit aromas and nutty, mineral salinity. Fascinating. 35.00
