Local specialities, delicious homemade products & finest ingredients from around the world

The delicatessen has been stocked with the aim of providing access to ‘proper’ homemade produce, local specialities and a hand-picked selection of top-end products from around the world.

Coffee is very important to everyone at Joseph Benjamin. Our ‘house coffee’ is a delicious Italian blend from Trieste - Antica Tostatura Triestina - and we now offer this and up to 15 other fantastic coffee varieties to buy as loose, whole beans or ground to your specifications from the deli. The latest expansion of the empire is in to loose leaf tea. We spent a few months researching and tasting and learning loads about tea. The results are now here to see (and smell... and taste) in the form of twenty-odd different varieties of tea. From smoky Lapsang Souchong to fruity Raspberry & Ginseng via very elegant Earl Greys and Breakfast teas, we've tried to cover all the bases with our first range. If there's something you're looking for and we don't stock it, please ask - chances are we'll get it in for you.

Anything labelled ‘homemade’ is made by us on the premises. Homemade products include an ever-expanding range of chutneys, pickles, pâtés, terrines, salads, cakes and pastries.

Local produce includes artisan breads from 3 local bakers, a range of cured meats and salamis from all over the Northwest, Cheshire fruit juices and a wide range of locally brewed real ales (16 different beers from Weetwood Ales, Woodlands Brewing Company and Spitting Feathers)

A small range of quality seasonal locally grown fruit and vegetables appear when available including asparagus, watercress, rocket, herbs, salad leaves, apples and lots more.

Our take-away salad boxes are proving quite a hit. We have a different ‘house salad’ every day, freshly made by our chefs to accompany a delicious slice of homemade tortilla, selection of salami, choice of olives, artichoke hearts, sun-blushed tomatoes, stuffed peppers etc etc.

Free-range local meats are roasted in our kitchen and available by the slice. Sirloin of beef, loin of pork and leg of lamb all feature regularly alongside our legendary chicken liver pâté and honey-mustard-glazed ham.

We also believe in acknowledging fantastic products from all over the world. It’s not about sourcing locally for the sake of it – first and foremost a product must be seriously good. Olive oil, pasta, prosciutto and salamis are proudly Italian and are some of the best in the world.

Cold roast meat, salami and prosciutto is at its best consumed as soon after slicing as possible – supermarket pre-sliced and vacuum packed versions tend to be far more expensive as well as having lost huge amounts in texture and flavour – not good, especially when they start with an inferior product in the first place. We have the largest range of quality ‘by the slice’ meats in the area and will happily provide samples and advice to help you put together a fantastic selection. SUPERMARKET SALAMI IS RUBBISH AND ALMOST ALWAYS MORE EXPENSIVE THAN OURS.

A carefully considered selection of wines spirits and liqueurs from around the world are available – each offering a fine example of their type. A growing number of Brit’s also make an appearance. A single malt Welsh whisky, Welsh ‘Brecon’ gin, Herefordshire cassis and Welsh vodka can also be found propping up an ever expanding range of bottled beers from Weetwood, Woodlands and other local, small-scale breweries.
