The bar at Joseph Benjamin is open to diners and non-diners and is open all day.
You are very welcome to eat in the bar – either at a high stool at the bar counter or at one of the tables around it.
We always have a barrel of one of the many fantastic locally brewed real ales on hand-pull as well as Dortmunder Union Pilsner on draught.
Woodlands Brewing Company in Nantwich supply the vast majority of our real ale. They produce a diverse and multi-award-winning range of beers and are brilliantly accommodating and knowledgeable. Having supplied us with their full range of bottle conditioned ales since 2006, we were very pleased to seek their help and advice in installing their barrels in the cellar and hand-pump on the bar of our new restaurant space in November 2009.
We also work closely with Weetwood Ales in Willington near Tarporley, whose bottles of Eastgate Ale are a permanent fixture. Located a stone’s throw from our parents house in Oscroft, a barrel of said ale has also fuelled numerous family parties and Christmas’s over the years.
We are proud of a carefully chosen wine list. As with our food menus, the wine list evolves regularly and we enjoy offering great examples of classic wine styles from all over the world.
A couple of things make our wine list different from many. Firstly, you can choose from around twenty five different wines ‘by-the-glass’. These wines are also available in a 500 ml carafe (two thirds of a bottle or two large glasses), which is a great option in many situations - A carafe to share between two is a nice sociable accompaniment for a light lunch and, with a more substantial meal, a carafe to complement your starters followed by a carafe with your main courses offers loads of options regardless of the number of diners.
Secondly, without wanting to draw too much attention to the messy and complicated profit-making side of the restaurant trade, many wine lists are a real rip-off. We don’t do silly mark-ups – I’d rather you enjoyed your wine, found it surprisingly good value and came back to try another!
We do like talking about wine and would be happy to make a few recommendations to match your lunch or dinner. Please feel free to ask for our thoughts. Not every member of staff is a wine expert (enthusiastic as they may be), but if you ask, there’s always at least one of us here who is.
Please ask about take-out wine prices at any time. The full wine list and lots of other interesting bottles are available from the deli at off-licence prices. The range just keeps growing!
We are not a cocktail bar, but we do like cocktails and regularly offer a simple classic as a ‘bar special’. Check out the front of our wine list for a regular changing (and expanding!) list of classic apertitifs.
If there is a drink that you fancy, feel free to ask us for it. If we’ve got the ingredients and the time, we’ll happily oblige.
